Is lying (announcing your hand) an appropriate/accepted form of bluffing? I was playing in our neighborhood monthly game last night and one of the players went all-in after the turn and announced he had two pair and not to call him. He's done this a few times before and he typically has the hand. I went ahead and folded (top pair) and the third guy called him hoping for a straight on the river. Well he got his straight and won the hand. The first player showed his cards and he had NOTHING. Now I'm all for bluffing but I'll admit I was on tilt after that hand. Now I'm starting to think what he did was part of the game. What are your thoughts (tell the truth)? Thanks

its very unethical to announce your hand or a fake hand. in casino situations you can be penalized and ultimately taken out of the tourney.

Well it is unethical...but I'm curious as to why you went on "tilt" when you would have lost anyways? I definetly wouldn't be upest in this particular situation.

Sometimes, I go on tilt, just taking a shower, lol.

Technically, and ethically, it is generally illegal to discuss your hole cards, period. Kinda sorta...

It is exceptable to state, "I have a very good hand/cards". Or, "geez, been getting horrible cards". Stating I have 2pr/str/fl/fh/set, is definitely out. Casinos and poker sites will defininetly frown upon this. Home/casual games, whatever...

I had pocket 5's in a live tournament. Only one other person called my small pre-flop raise, he's to my immediate left. The flop comes out 2,3,5 rainbow. I'm first to act, and push all in.

My friend's wife, who is to the left of the other guy in the hand, says "Why you gotta do that, you know that flop didn't help anybody?" And I said, "Helps out my pocket 2's!".

The guy called with pocket 3's, and I turned over my 5's and took his stack.

Is there something wrong with what was said?
